The post commissary Capt. Benagh and Mr. Wallace, agent for J. H. Piatt came to Ft. Amanda to inventory supplies there. Wallace brought news that two Dudley’s men who escaped from Malden had found their way back to Ft. Meigs and informed the commandant there that the British were moving south with 6000 troops with plans to attack Meigs. This no doubt caused some concern for the boys at Amanda.
Meanwhile, agent Wallace performed his inventory and his report listing the supplies stored along the Auglaize route.
It is estimated each barrel of whiskey contained 64 gallons meaning that over 20,000 gallons of it was being stored along the Auglaize route; 224 gallons at Ft. Jennings, 4416 gallons at Ft. Amanda and 15,508 gallons at Ft. Winchester (Defiance). In addition, 5 tons of bacon were stored at Winchester and 55 TONS OF BACON at Amanda.
